Pai Gow Poker Rules

Pai Gow Poker rules incorporate a few rules that you will find different than regular poker rules. The main difference is that with Pai Gow Poker is that you play with a joker in the deck.

With Pai Gow Poker you play with seven cards and divide your hand into two separate hands. Your hand is broke into one hand with five cards and a second hand with two cards. Your first hand of five cards -- Highest Hand-- must outrank your second hand 2nd Highest-- of two cards.

The five card hand in Pai Gow Poker Rules rank the same as all other Poker games with the exception that an A-2-3-4-5 is the second highest straight which means it outranks a King high straight. The two card hand either consists of a pair or 2 different cards. The highest two card hand is a pair of Aces and the lowest hand is a 2 and a 3.

With the Pai Gow Poker rules the joker has some value to it. It may be played to complete a straight, a straight flush, a flush, otherwise treated as an Ace.

When playing Pai Gow Poker at most Online Casinos they will arrange the hands in the following manner --House Way-- if you don't arrange your own hand:

1. If you have a no pairs they will put the highest card in the 2nd Highest and the next two in the Highest Hand.

2. If you have one pair they will put the pair in the 2nd Highest and the next two highest cards in the Highest Hand.

3. If you have two pairs they will put them in the Highest Hand, though will split them if:

  • One of the pair is 7's or greater and you have no Ace.
  • One of the pairs is Jacks or better and you have no Ace.
  • One of the pairs is Aces and any other pair.

4. If you have three pair, the highest pair will be put in the Highest Hand.

5. If you have three of a kind they will put three of a kind in the Highest Hand, but if you have three Aces they will split them.

6. If you have full house they will split except when you have a pair of 2's, and the Ace King can be played in the 2nd Highest.

7. If you have a full house inclusive of three of a kind and two pairs, they will put the highest pair in the 2nd Highest.

8. If you get a hand with two set of three, they will put the highest pair in the 2nd Highest.

9. If you receive any straights, flushes, straight flushes or receive a royal flush.

a. will always put your straight or flush in the Highest Hand, but will play as two pair if:

  • there are any two pairs and Ace.
  • there is a pair of Jacks and a pair of 6's.
  • you have a pair of Aces and any other pair.

b. If you have a 6 or 7 card flush or straight, they will put the highest hand in the 2nd Highest and the straight or flush in the Highest Hand.

c. They Will always play a straight or a flush over a straight flush to improve your 2nd Highest to a King or better.

10. If you get four of a kind they will always play according to the rank of the four of a kind:

a. If the four of a kind are from 2 to 6, they are kept together.

b. If the four of a kind are from 7 to 10, they will split unless an Ace or better can be played in the 2nd highest.

c. If the four of a kind are Jacks, Queens or Kings they will split the hand unless it contains a pair of 10's or higher.

d. If the four of a kind are Aces they will split them unless a pair of 7's or higher may be played in the 2nd Highest.

e. If you have 5 Aces they will split them unless a pair of Kings may be played in the 2nd Highest.

With Pai Gow Poker Rules the last thing to fin out is if you have won as this is a rather simple matter to figure out. As you only receive seven cards altogether, it is how you split them up which determines if you are the winner or not.

If you beat the dealer with both of your hands you will usually be paid out at 1:1 odds less a banker's commission which is usually 5%. The opposite works in the dealer's case if he beats both your hands. If you have a tie or a push and each of you win a hand, then your bet will be returned.

Best of luck to you when you are playing Pai Gow Poker at your favorite Online Casino.
